Diran Peak Nagar Valley Expedition
Diran is a dangerous mountain also called the third killer mountain in Pakistan as its snow faces are often laden with avalanche prone snow slopes and so far causing many events resulting in dozens of deaths.
Diran Peak located in Nagar Valley also locally known as Minapin peak is located in between Rakaposhi and the Haramosh massif imparts natural elegance and financial benefit to the region after Rakaposhi hovering next to it. This 7,266-metre (23,839 ft) pyramid shaped mountain lies to the east of Rakaposhi (7,788m). The southern side can also be viewed from the Karakorum highway and is mostly prevails the Bagrot Valley.
The abrupt face is treacherous and dangerous triggering off avalanches but doesn’t threaten life and property for being at a fair distance. The North face falls in the Minapin in Nagar Valley with fairly enough summer resort and gives off Baltar and Hinarchi glaciers.
Rakaposhi and Diran peaks both sides attract plenty of tourists annually and Diran comprises of ice and snow mass slopes with scarce rocks can be found. Being close to the Karakorum highway this peak is easily approachable so is the situation with the magnificent Rakaposhi.
An Australian expedition team in 1968 attempted to scale the peak and were successful during their climb they came across huge crevases and snow dunes on the western ridge of the peak.
