Diran is a mountain in the Karakoram range in Nagar Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Diran Peak Base Camp Trek is famous by its easy access. This 7,266-metre (23,839 ft) pyramid shaped mountain lies to the east of Rakaposhi (7,788m). Diran is a dangerous mountain also called the third killer mountain in Pakistan as its snow faces are often laden with avalanche prone snow slopes and so far causing many events resulting in dozens of deaths. Diran was first climbed in 1968 by three Austrians: Rainer Goeschl, Rudolph Pischinger and Hanns Schell. Earlier attempts by a German expedition in 1959 and an Austrian expedition in 1964 were unsuccessful.

Rakaposhi is a crown jewel of Nagar and Hunza Valley. It is present in Nagar Valley and every eye that falls upon Rakaposhi is stunned by the majestic views. Treks in these valleys, seldom on the itineraries of trekkers, are easily accessible by road with mostly simple trails and breathtaking vistas. These treks tend to be the simplest, and the hot favorite trek for the newcomers. Besides this trek, the visitors can enjoy a drive on the Karakorum highway surrounded by majestic mountains and lush green landscapes.

This trek is so easy and accessible and at the same time very enjoyable. It is 2-3 hours from Minapin village to Hapakun, 3-4 hours easy walk on easy trial than from Hapkun to Rakaposhi Base Camp. The Katchelly Glacier that takes 2-3 hours on the moraine has to be crossed for the Diran Base Camp. You can do a day trip to Diran Peak Base Camp or spend the night in the Diran Base Camp. From Diran Base Camp you can go for an excursion to Katachelly Lake for 2-3 hours, or from the base camp, you can go for a day’s walk to the Diran Peak advance camp or ABC camp. There are several peaks below 6500 m around Diran’s base camp, named trekking peaks to climb them these peaks are the Pheker Peak 5480 M, Mirshikar 5850 M, and Katchelly Peak 5800 M and you can also do skiing from those peaks as well. From Rakapsohi Base Camp you can enjoy very nice views of Gappa Chalt Valley, Hunza Valley and Ultar peak.

  1. SOON

My family and 5 colleagues from work completed the 11 day Diran PeakTrek in March 2019. Azfar and his team were outstanding throughout the process. Our group planned this trip for months, and all email communication was answered quickly and thoroughly. Our guides and porters were top notch. The overall experience for our party of 9 travelers was wonderful and I was especially appreciative of the care shown to my two children ages 9 and 11. I would work with them again without hesitation.
